Career Summary

Abby Schlackman

My name is Abby Schlackman, and I am a passionate educator committed to creating inclusive and supportive learning environments where all students feel valued and empowered to succeed. I hold a Master’s in Childhood and Special Education (Grades 1-6) from Touro University and a NYS initial certificate in Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6).

I am currently serving as a special education teacher in a 12:2:2 ABA-based classroom for first-grade students with autism at Tiegerman School, a school specializing in language and communication development. In this role, I plan and deliver highly individualized instruction aligned with IEP goals, implement ABA-based intervention strategies, and support nonspeaking students through augmentative & alternative communication, core vocabulary, and visual communication systems. I believe learning isn’t one-size-fits-all, so I strive to meet students where they are by balancing explicit instruction with hands-on, natural learning opportunities.

I am committed to making learning accessible, engaging, and meaningful by incorporating structure, flexibility, and relationship-building into my teaching. My goal is to create a classroom where students feel safe taking risks, excited to learn, and proud of their progress.
