Abby Schlackman

My name is Abby Schlackman, and I am a passionate educator committed to creating inclusive and supportive learning environments where all students feel valued and empowered to succeed. I hold a Master’s in Childhood and Special Education (Grades 1-6) from Touro University and have experience working in all elementary classroom settings.
Currently, I am a substitute teacher at Merrimac Elementary School and a 1:1 teacher at Huntington Learning Center. My philosophy focuses on helping students generalize skills, develop self-advocacy, and build social-emotional wellness so they can gain confidence and independence in and out of the classroom. I believe learning isn’t one-size-fits-all, so I strive to meet students where they are by balancing explicit instruction with hands-on, natural learning opportunities.
I am committed to making learning accessible, engaging, and meaningful by incorporating structure, flexibility, and relationship-building into my teaching. My goal is to create a classroom where students feel safe taking risks, excited to learn, and proud of their progress.
